VOLUNTEERS

Volunteer Services:

Our volunteers are an important part of our organisation.  Their contribution at our homes are greatly valued.

It is important to us that volunteers feel comfortable in their role and are able to communicate to us any concerns they may have regarding their volunteer work with us.

Volunteering in aged care can be very rewarding and we greatly appreciate any new people wishing to volunteer their services to the Homes.  Volunteers can contact our administration team for information regarding how to join our volunteer team.

Volunteers assist our Diversional Therapists with activities.

Our aim is to give quality of life to each resident by:

· Promoting self esteem

· Creating a sense of achievement

· Promoting independence

· Preventing boredom and loneliness

· Providing activities which are varied and entertaining

· Encouraging general communication

· And maintaining community contacts

Volunteer activities’ programs.

Our programs are planned on a monthly basis which include:

· Cooking within the homes e.g. jam making, afternoon teas

· Visits from children, choirs and music groups

· Crafts

· Games such as bingo, carpet bowls, word games

· Gardening

· BBQ lunches, picnics, outings

· Sing-a-longs

· Happy hour

· Reading to residents

Getting to know residents.

It is understandable that it will take a few weeks for volunteers to get to know the residents and the environment in which they live.

What is a volunteer?

The essential elements that define volunteering include the provision of a service to the community which is done of one’s own free will without monetary reward.

As a volunteer you will be required to:

· Obtain a current police check

· Attend an orientation session

· Work within the “guidelines” of the Diversional Therapy program

· Sign the attendance book (which assists us to identify who is on the premises and also for statistical purposes)

· Wear a name badge (This needs to be worn while on the premises and when involved in activities outside at the discretion of the Diversional therapist).

Volunteering is all about obtaining a sense of satisfaction by helping others and having fun at the same time.

Volunteers make friends with their co-workers and residents, some find that their self-esteem improves as well as the feeling they are doing something for others.

When are volunteers required:

Volunteers elect to come once a week, others fortnightly and some monthly.
